Production
Laminaria is the most abundantly produced of all
macrophytic algae. Approximate annual production figures from recent
years are as above.
|
Biology & Agronomy
Laminaria is extensively farmed in China, Korea and
Japan. It is also harvested from wild stands in Northeastern North
America, Iceland, Greenland and Western Europe. There is a great
deal of material published on Laminaria in various languages and
SuriaLink is in the process of organising and linking this
material.
|
Chemistry
SuriaLink has a monograph in preparation on the chemistry of
alginates.
|
Processing
We have several monographs in progress covering analytical
procedures post-harvest treatment and process technology. Check
the processing
index for available web pages and monographs.
|
Products, Uses & Applications
Laminaria has many applications and is the most
extensively utilised of all seaplant genera.
